Constantine to evaluate review of inmate riot at King County Jail

 SEATTLE -- King County Executive Dow Constantine said his office will evaluate the findings of an administrative review into the inmates' riot at the King County Jail on Sunday.

Accused claims officers sparked riot

The man accused of sparking a riot at Belconnen Remand Centre last year, in which six prison officers were taken to hospital, says corrections authorities provoked the trouble by calling prisoners scum.

Matthew James Massey is one of five former and current detainees to be charged over the violence at one of the centre's yards on January 5, 2009.

A second prison officers was injured in a disturbance at Scotland's newest prison, it has emerged.

Emergency services were called to Addiewell Prison in West Lothian after up to 10 prisoners rioted on Monday.

One of the officers was hit by a pool cue in the incident. It is not known how the second officer was hurt.

Neither of the officers is thought to have sustained serious injuries. The incident was brought under control a short time later.

It is understood the disturbance was sparked after an inmate was told his methadone was to be reduced.

British prison inmates riot over methadone

More than a hundred inmates trashed a British prison and badly injured a guard with a pool cue during a violent riot.

The Sun reported the gang of prisoners went on the rampage at privately-run Addiewell jail in Scotland at 7:30pm GMT Monday night, after being refused methadone by staff.

Prisoners were said to be setting fire to pool tables and trying to reach the jail's roof.

Addiewell riot prompts doubts over private prison security

A warder is in hospital after a riot at one of Scotland’s two private prisons, sparking concern about private security in jails.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said that a 29-year-old man was taken to St John’s hospital in Livingston with head and facial injuries at about 7.50pm, after emergency services were called to Addiewell in West Lothian last night. Lothian and Borders police said that up to ten prisoners were “actively” involved in the incident.
