AUGUSTA, Ga. - Eight inmates are charged after fighting with deputy jailers.  Investigators say the inmates started to fight with three deputy jailers Friday night after they were told to stop gambling.

The fight happened on the 6th floor of the jail. That's where inmates charged with violent crimes, like murder and armed robbery, are usually kept.

Sheriff Ronnie Strength tells 26 News 31 inmates were on the 6th floor when the fight occurred. But only those eight will be charged.

One deputy received a broken nose, another a broken rib, and one was stabbed in the face with a pencil.
Investigators have charged them with several counts of aggravated assault against a police officer and rioting in a penal institution.
